Siquijor, one of the unique places in the Philippines where beauty comes in both a bewitching scenery and a mysterious culture. Known to be a place where witchcraft and folklore is a trending topic, Siquijor is one of those hidden gems that many people miss out to visit because of these tales. But do not be mistaken – the rich culture also presents a richer destination for those who wanted beauty in all it’s simplicity and majesty.

With a lot of beaches surrounding the island, no wonder it’s a favorite sport for those who want to spend their time in solitude! The waters are so clear that we didn’t have to use any red filters below. Not only do you visit these cool beaches, you could also explore a lot of caves at Siquijor! And if you’re on a thrill-seeking adventure, then try cliff jumping and waterfall jumping here too! There are so many things to do in so little time, and before you guys get bored of the narating, let’s get on with it and rediscover Siquijor’s bewitching beauty.

HOW TO GET THERE

Public Transport

  1. From Dumaguete City, take a tricycle to Dumaguete port.
  2. Purchase your boat tickets and board ferries or boats going to Siquijor directly.
  3. Once you land on Siquijor, walk a little outside the port area and there would be lots of trike’s you could hire in case you did not arrange any rides thru your accommodation.

*** Now the best way to get around the island if you’re in a large group is renting a van (either pre-arranged by your hotel or simply finding one at the bay). If you’re in a smaller group however (2-3), you could rent a tricycle which will take you around the island. There are lots and lots of destinations here so a day won’t exactly be enough if you really wanted to stay longer on a spot. So plan you’re itinerary well and savor every bit of what Siquijor offers; and remember to be a responsible tourist as well 🙂

*** You could also arrange boat rides going to Apo Island from Siquijor (now available at Coco Grove Resort).

WHERE TO STAY & WHOM TO CALL

Staying at Siquijor opens up to many options. You could either book your accommodations ahead of time or just finding somewhere to stay when you get here.

If you go for the former, the best hotel here that even locals say you should go here to enjoy Siquijor truly; is Coco Grove. It’s actually one of the oldest resorts in the island or possibly the first. Though it is really well maintained and has a vast area of 5 hectares! Now that’s a resort no one could complain about. The service is great; and combining it with the beautiful view of the sea, no wonder it’s a great choice to book here. A cheaper option would be the Salagdoong Beach Resort in which is basically a tourist spot in itself! It has clear waters and it’s cliff jumping highlights the visit; that’s why it’s sometimes called the “Peer Pressure Island” where at the end of the day, everyone jumps! There are lots of resorts which fit a variety of budget and preferences, see here for reference.

Now if you opt to look for a hotel as you get here, just call a tricycle – tell them your budget, preference, occupants, and they’ll gladly find you one! They could even offer you home stays (which is awesome as always!) and rediscover Siquijor like a local!

*** If you’re looking for a local contact that could help you out (either looking for hotels, trikes, vans, etc), contact Kuya Irvin’s at 09158903286.

REDISCOVERING SIQUIJOR

Siquijor’s tour is basically around the whole island with stops in between. There are also those tours that traverse the island especially if you would be going up Mt. Bandilaan or go into those deep caves. These caving activities are best suited during summer when the water is clear inside the cave and the stones are not that slippery; but of course, nothing could stop you if those thrill-seeking hormones come into play. Nevertheless, you could prepare your own itinerary; not necessarily going to every stop in town (because that’s impossible). You could choose where to hang out the most and spend your time with rather than struggling to visit every spot. No worries if you won’t visit every spot in the first day; you could do it the next day; or even the next time. There’s always a reason to go back! Find it and rediscover how beautiful Siquijor truly is.
