Club Tara is an island resort in the eastern part of Surigao and is one of the many unique styles of resorts in the Philippines.

The resort’s geography, is surrounded by sphere shaped islets that protect it from crashing waves – making inner waters surprisingly calm. Cottages are designed to face the open water and have very large doors and glass bottom panes for a view underneath. It also holds a great view of the waters while relaxing on a Jacuzzi. The food is perfect – never leave if you haven’t taste the seashells.

Like many resorts, they hold trips to Surigao’s famous adventures. From journeying Bucas Grande, entering Sohoton, the Jellyfish sanctuary, and many more islets on Surigao – a day is never enough.

How to Get Here

We took the shortest way possible (Just because it’s the only way we know. lol)

Making reservations on Club Tara would be good path to take(though I haven’t tried yet). We opt to just be the innocent-tourist-asking-people-directions path (Which I find great!).

ROUTE by Plane

  1. Manila to Surigao City Airport
    • Schedule a flight to Surigao City from Manila. Once at the airport, you could rent a tricycle to take you to the bus terminal for Hayangabon Port.
    • You could also opt to stay and enjoy the town first – take a trip to Pebble Beach, Dinagat Island, or enjoy the special seafood at Ocean Bounties. (Oh! I’m getting ahead of myself, this is reserved for my next blog :b )
  2. Surigao City to Hayangabon Port
    • Depending if you stayed in the city or not, take a tricycle to Surigao City Bus Terminal going to Hayangabon.
    • On the terminal, are frequent bus trips to Hayangabon. You could also choose to ride a van instead. It will cost the same anyway.
  3. Hayangabon Port to Club Tara Island Resort
    • If you called Club Tara or reserved a boat ride then you can just wait for it here. If not, then talk to boatmen here to take you to the resort. It costs 1000php to reach Club Tara.
    • The trips are limited – mostly in the morning only (about 3 trips). The afternoon trips would be more expensive so it is advisable to leave early. The boatmen could also offer you tour on other islands, we advise not to and just schedule one at Club Tara. Better rest yourself first, as I said – a day or two won’t be enough.

In a place where everywhere you look is perfect, sometimes its difficult to think where to go first. The list would go on here but it’s really a benefit to have a high memory on your camera. You wouldn’t want to miss out all the scenery would you?

Enjoy the Amenities

First off, start from your cottage. You would be amazed on the interior design and how it is ingeniously engineered for relaxation. Start walking around the resort and you’ll simply not let your camera go. Great food – It is recommended to try their seashells dish. It’s not often on the menu so just ask them about it.

Enjoy Kayaking/Kite Surfing. Not only do you explore the resort’s waters, you could also wander around the other beaches and islets you would see. Remember to bring your snorkles and underwater camera for the area is really filled with fishes of a variety.

The resort is very well maintained and has a unique way of filling the eyes with color. One could hardly get a bad shot in it. A photographer’s haven indeed.

Sohoton Tour

This is a must-take tour. For a little info, the Sohoton is a very very large lagoon in Surigao and is only accessible at low tides. It’s very mystifying as well, as you may see strange stuff inside the lagoon. Better get a guide – it’s like a maze inside.

Once passing thru the Sohoton Cave, you would now be in the open waters inside the lagoon. There’s a mayhem of activities in them.

Entering the Hagukan cove is one of the most unique experience you could have. You would only reach the inner part of the cove by swimming underneath sharp shells sticking out of the rocks. Better have a life vest if you do not know how to swim. Playing with the water here would distort the sun’s rays and result in a very enticing swatch of colors. A wonderous work of nature indeed!

For those who love a thrilling ride, you could go inside a cave in which you would leave by jumping out!  Time to show off…or not….

Another highlight of the travel would be a trip to the Jellyfish Sanctuary. It’s best to go on summer time – as the jellyfishes would swarm the entire lake. You won’t have to worry much because these jellyfishes are sting-less in nature. They come in different sizes and colors. You could touch them and feel their slimy bodies – though you are not allowed to swim in the area.
